Unifying real-time reporting across 70+ venues after a major hospitality merger

Star Group

"Through MyIQ, we now have real-time sales, gross profit and wage cost reporting and analytics delivered direct to PC and mobile, integrating with both Tevalis and Deputy."

Mark Williams, Strategic Projects, Star Group

Background

In April 2023, two of New Zealand's leading hospitality groups merged to form Star Group. Kapura -- operator of OneTap POS across 35 or more sites loaded individually -- joined with Joylab, which operated a single SWIFTPOS server across its venues. The result was a combined group of more than 70 hospitality venues operating across different POS platforms, different data structures, and different reporting environments.

The merger created an immediate data challenge: how do you get a unified view of sales, GP and wage performance across two groups that had never shared a reporting infrastructure?

The Challenge

The technical complexity of the merger was significant. Kapura's OneTap sites each loaded data individually, meaning consolidation required pulling from dozens of separate data sources. Joylab's SWIFTPOS environment operated from a single server but had its own data model and reporting conventions.

Neither group had a ready-made solution for cross-platform consolidated reporting. Management needed real-time visibility of sales, gross profit and wage cost across all venues simultaneously -- on desktop and mobile -- without waiting for manual consolidation or end-of-day extracts.

The Solution

2IQ built a unified data integration layer connecting both the OneTap and SWIFTPOS environments into the MyIQ platform. The solution brought Kapura's individually-loaded sites and Joylab's centralised environment together in a single Kimball-standard data warehouse on Microsoft Azure, normalising the different data structures into a consistent reporting model.

Rostering data from Deputy was integrated alongside the POS data to enable real-time wage-to-sales monitoring at both venue and group level. The combined data feed powers MyIQ's reporting suite, delivering sales, GP and labour analytics to management devices in real time.

The solution was designed for the configuration-not-construction model: new venues can be onboarded quickly using existing connectors and templates, supporting Star Group's ongoing growth.

The Result

Star Group now has a single view of operations across all venues, regardless of which POS platform a site uses. Management can monitor sales performance, gross profit and wage costs in real time across the entire group from any device.

The integration of Tevalis POS and Deputy rostering data means wage-to-sales ratios are visible in real time -- enabling managers to make staffing decisions based on live trading conditions rather than yesterday's numbers.
